India launches moon mission
India is aiming to become the first country to land a rover on the Moon’s south pole
Chandrayaan-3, the latest attempt by the Indian Space Research Organization to land a robotic rover on the surface of the moon, successfully lifted off on schedule at 2:35pm local time from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota on the country's east coast.
The launch comes three years after a previous effort to explore the surface of the Moon ended in failure.
